ABAKUMOVA V. I. Activities of theaters for implementation on scenes of ukrainian dramaturgy during period of perestroika

The conditions, statistical indicators, and difficulties in the theaters' activities on the stage embodiment of the works of Ukrainian drama are investigated in the years of perestroika.
It is proved that certain liberalization took place in the repertoire policy of the Ministry of Culture, which contributed to the activation of theaters on the stage embodiment of the works of Ukrainian dramaturgy. The researcher referred a plan of state order for theaters for the stage embodiment of works of Ukrainian dramaturgy and thematic republican theater shows to such measures that contributed to enriching the repertoire with works of Ukrainian dramaturgy.
An analysis of statistical indicators (the number of authors whose works were referred by directors; titles of plays and performances) showed an improvement in the second half of the 1980s. It is proved that the repertoire of theaters was enriched with an increase in public interest in the heritage of Ukrainian art. Works of Ukrainian classics that had no stage history before were staged. These are the works of L. Ukrainka, M. Kropyvnytsky, S. Vorobkevych. Musical theaters began to pay attention to the works of Ukrainian composers, in particular M. Lysenko, K. Dankevych, B. Lyatoshynsky. The viewer of the dramatic performances got an opportunity to get acquainted with the heritage of previously unknown Ukrainian authors, for example M. Kulish, M. Khvylovy, V. Vynnychenko, Y. Mamontov.
The author associates certain shortcomings in the repertoire policy of theaters with the quality of the repertoire. The quantitative limitations of the titles of the plays and the poverty of the standard repertoire set are indicated. There has been abuse of national "best sellers." In particular, data is provided on the annual number of such submissions. For example, “Matchmaking on Honcharivka” 12 theaters of the republic showed more than 500 times a year.
The author noted that the repertoire difficulties were caused by the crisis in the then Ukrainian drama.
