HYRYCH Ya. M. Historical exploration of Hlukhiv male gymnasium lecturer V. A. Malchenko about the history of Ukrainian Cossacks in XVI – first half of XVII-th century

     Publication of documents is an important part of the craft of the historian. Introduction to the scientific use of new sources, the works of historians and various materials allows professionals to not only enrich the documentary database of historical research, but also more fully understand the major issues of the past. Today, among the promising areas of national historical science called local history prosopography history of some narrow professional communities. Subject of scientific work in the teaching environment of Hlukhiv during second half of XIX till the early XX century. Expand the existing source base theme aims to publish one of historical essays decades of history and geography teacher of Hlukhiv male and female gymnasiums V. Malchenko.

     Vassyl Malchenko was born in February 1859 in the village Zemlianka near Hlukhiv. In 1870 – 1878 he studied in Hlukhiv male preschool. Two next years he spend at the gymnasium in Novgorod-Siversky. In 1880 – 1887 he studied at the historical-philological faculty of Kyiv Imperial University of St. Volodymyr. After graduating the university he received a degree a candidate of university.

     He started his career in in Rovno High School on August 20, 1887. Later, on October 21, 1887 he became a teacher of history and geography in Hluhiv male preschool (from 1889 – male gymnasium). V. Malchenko worked in male gymnasium since its reorganization in seven-year school in 1920. In 1889 – 1902 (by other sources – up to 1906) years he also was a teacher of history and geography in Hlukhiv female preschool and gymnasium.

     Historical manuscript of V. A. Malchenko “Kozachestvo before Bohdan Hmelnytstky” was written in 1936 and now published for the first time. This work is an example of original style and language prevailing in the university academic environment of the last quarter of the nineteenth century. Original lexicon, punctuation and syntax work saved without any editorial corrections. Appearance of the document will further increase knowledge of the educational development of Northern Left Bank Ukraine on the verge of XIX – XX centuries. It launches a series of publications and artistic heritage Hlukhiv historian.

    Main thematic of Malchenko’s essay were devoted to the etymology of the Cossacks, emphasis on his Ukrainian character, indication of the Tatar factor and the role of starostas in the appearance of the Cossacks. An important part of manuscrort takes the analysis of socio-economic relations with the Cossacks, followed colonization mission Cossacks in the steppe zone. Key events in the life of Ukrainian lands author calls the conclusion of Lublin and Brest Unions, which soon led to the emergence of the Polish administration, starting of the legal status of registered Cossacks and the activation of religious opposition. One of the most important events of Cossack history in the first half XVII were revolts of 1620 – 1630 years. Fighting unregistrated Cossacks called for the expansion of the register as determining the causes of these armed actions.
