BIRIOVA O. U. Cossack regiments of Slobidska Ukraine.

    Currently, regional history is one of the leading sectors of domestic science. Topics of the Sloboda Cossack identity for a long period of not properly investigated because more attention is paid to Zaporizhzhya and Registered Cossacks.

     The purpose of the article is to explore the historical conditions of the Sloboda region settlement and describe the formation of Cossack regiments. The article characterizes the process of settling the territory of Sloboda Ukraine in the XVII century. The causes of such mass migrations to new uninhabited territory, which have been linked to the yoke of the gentry and the revolutionary events that took place in Central and Western Ukraine are also investigated. Based on the analysis of a number of scientific works, it can be concluded that the first resettlement historians have referred to 1617.

     Also the options of the local population and the names of the regiments are analyzed. Initially, all the Cossacks were called "Cherkasy", respectively, and the shelves were called Cherkassky. The name "suburban" regiments received only in the middle of the XVIII century, and came to be called, and the population of a given territory - slobozhans.

    The article deals with the territory, which was intended for Ukrainian Cossacks. It was abroad Belgorod Zasechnaya line, behind which were allowed to settle immigrants from other regions of Ukraine. In confirmation of this are letters of Russian governor of the XVII century. It is also said concerning the king's decree, which specifies the border between the Ukrainian and Russian populations.

     The article says that initially the number of regiments continually changed in Sloboda Ukraine. There are colonels names Kotelva and Balakleya, although later these regiments did not exist. The study also analyzes the date of occurrence of the five suburban regiments: Kharkov, Sumy, Izyum, Akhtyrsky, Ostrogozhsk or Rybinsk. Specifies the regimental area is made. It is a question of especially settlement Rybinsk regiment as the Cossacks of this regiment could not settle on their own, but only with the permission of the Moscow tsar.

      We give documentary evidence of the number of Cossacks in each shelf, from which it follows that Ostrogozhsky regiment was the most populated. It is said about the administrative division of the regiments, which were divided into hundreds and tens. The number of these territorial units is constantly changing, because of what the changed area of ​​the regiment.
