KOMARNITSKY A. B., KOMARNITSKAYA L. N. Students of Sumy pedagogical university in the 20-30s of the XX century

    Based on archival sources and materials of the then periodicals, the article analyzes the formation of the student contingent of the Sumy Pedagogical University, the educational, research and socio-political activities of young people, their financial situation in the 20-30s of the XX century. Available sources indicate an increase of student contingent. At the same time, there were cases when the plan for admitting young people to study was not implemented.
     The authors note that some students, due to certain circumstances, could not complete their studies. The dropout rate of students was especially noticeable during the hungry 1932 – 1933 . As for the social composition, the university maintained interest parity between peasants and workers. Among the students, the party-Komsomol layer dominated. In terms of national composition, Ukrainians had the championship, and women had the championship in gender. We are also talking about the participation of students in educational and methodological work, in particular about their activities as part of cyclic commissions. An important component of student life was pedagogical and industrial practice. The article shows also the research activities of youth.
The authors analyze the work of authorities on the sovietization of students, imposing on them the Marxist-Leninist ideology. In the context of this, the functioning of the Communist Party and Komsomol cells and the organization of political circles are discussed. In addition, the work of a student trade union organization, the participation of students in campaigns to raise funds for various economic needs of the state are shown. The patronage work in the villages, at the enterprises of the city is characterized. It is noted that part of the students did not accept the Bolshevik model of society, and in the 1930s their opposition sentiments are intensifying. The authors did not ignore the financial situation of young people. In particular, a number of facts on providing students with housing, heating, scholarships, meals, and the organization of their leisure are given.
