TERENTYEVA V. M. From the history of Putivl Regional Museum (1919 – 1941).

       Putivlsky Museum is one of the oldest institutions of Sumy region, which represents a unique collection of archaeological remains, ethnographic amusing, works of applied and fine art, coins, documents of XVII - XX centuries, rare books of XVIII - XX centuries, samples of ancient weapons and more. Now a museum housed is in a former Cherepov’s apartment landlords. The building was built in neoclassical style with pediment, colonnade and mascarons.

      The purpose of this article is the reconstruction of the most difficult period in the history of the institution, since the creation during the Civil War before the Soviet-German war of 1941.

      In the article author describes the most difficult period of becoming the Putivl Regional Museum which is the oldest museum in Sumy region on the basis of documents kept in the funds and the library of the State Historical and Cultural Reserve. The considerable attention is paid to the founder, the first director of the museum – to Petro Maksymovych Korenyev who in the conditions of Civil war managed not only to create and keep, but also to expand a museum collection. Petro Maksymovych in the 1920th years was engaged in an active preservation of monuments of history: describes barrows, struts, ancient settlements; protects buildings of Molchansky monastery and Sofronivska pustyn from destruction. In 1927 local party management wished to close establishment. And thanks to the active resistance of P. M. Korenyev the establishment managed to be kept. Noticeable the authorities in development of the museum was carried it out by the successor – Dmytro Vasylovych Sharapov. It had to work in the conditions of strengthening of repressions in the middle of the 1930th years when museum establishments turned into an ideological appendage of party. By Dmytro Vasylovych management the museum collection was increased for the expense of the weapon of XVIII – XIX century and Porcelain products of factory of Gardner, furniture of XVIII st. was considerably expanded. Following heads of institution: Olexandr Yosypovych Stepanenko and Yosyp Fomych Mukhopad continued their business. In 1939 Putyvl museum made a sound record of traditions instruments in village Nova Sloboda. These records are an important source of information on this ethnographic group. Exactly thanks to the first four directors 95 years the Putivl museum of local lore causes a great interest in visitors and museum experts.
